You be You

'Sound of Music' fan art to start the year off right! Time to have a little confidence and embrace the ventures ahead.

I have some fun projects I've been working on that I'm excited to share with you over the next few months on the blog and I also post weekly to my instagram (usually lunch time sketches/doodles) if you want to see more.
The biggest thing I want to do this year is really delve into some exploration.

I recently participated in a group video for one of my favorite artists and mentors Will Terry for his Youtube Channel.
In this video, Will asks what my future plans are towards the end of the discussion and it is very obvious, as I stumble for an answer, that I don't completely know. Everything sounds appealing to me right now because I want to try it all!

I also mention that I leaned on other artists I admired while I was in school, like Brittney Lee and Pascal Campion. I bring this up because one of the biggest lessons I've learned since I've left school (told to me by multiple artists I admire) is to find your own voice. The best way to do that is explore and draw from life. Drawing from life allows you to solve the problem in your own way versus looking at how other artists are doing it. It helps to have influences, to copy from the masters so we can learn, but there comes a point where your art has to have your signature on it.

I know we are always evolving as artists and I feel like I am going to embrace that this year. I'm ready to get out and draw more in 2016!

Other artists in the video: Adam Munoa, Stewart Craig, Cam Kendall and Will Terry.
